Casey’s mind raced as she walked the short distance between Brooklyn Heights and Cobble Hill. The proximity to her own home was perfect. Getting jobs within her neighborhood was unusual. Usually, she traveled all over Manhattan.

She reflected on her appointment that morning with Rachael. A mixture of exhaustion and elation swept over her at the way it had turned out. She realized now how many emotions she’d been repressing. Having released a lot of them was hugely cathartic. She wondered if the Image Rehearsal Therapy would work. She tapped her pocket to feel for the USB drive she’d saved her documents to that afternoon. She planned to go over her rewrite of the incident for at least fifteen minutes before she went to bed that night. To memorize it, and hopefully reset her mind to believe the new story. It wasn’t this that was exciting her though. It was the ideas hounding her of how she could fashion an entire story around the incident.

She did her best to stay focused on the excitement of the story, trying not to think about what had happened with Robyn. It seemed her body was reacting completely separately from her brain. Robyn was a client. It was entirely against company policy to start a relationship with a client while working on a job for them. Not only that, but Robyn was in a relationship. Although, on this occasion that wasn’t something that would necessarily hold Casey back. Having seen Nina with Lydia, there was no doubt in Casey’s mind that they were making a fool of Robyn. She hated knowing that, but also wasn’t sure whether she should say something or not.

She rounded the corner into the familiar street, admiring the leafy red maple trees as she passed brownstones identical to her own. The automatic doors to the underground garage area opened when she reached her building. She smiled at the familiar roar of a motorbike. Her dad must be collecting the bike later than he’d planned. She’d given him a key swipe to access the garage. She walked through the doors and waved over the roar of the engine. He saw her, grinned and switched it off. A toolbox, various containers and drop sheets surrounded the bike. She hoped he hadn’t done too much to it. She’d had it serviced only a few weeks earlier.

“Running like a beauty,” he said. “You’ve done a great job looking after her for me. I didn’t realize you’d planned to use her.”

Heat flooded Casey’s cheeks. When her father had planned his first trip, she’d said of course when he asked her to garage the bike for him. She had a small allocated space in the basement car park not big enough for a car but enough room to store a few items if she needed to. She’d contemplated putting a notice up offering to rent the space until her father asked if she’d garage the bike. “I fell in love with her,” Casey admitted. “More so in the last few months.
